S’Ozzastru
Among the oldest in the world, experts estimate its age at between 3000 and 4000 years. The “Great Patriarch” is considered the oldest Millenary Olive tree in Europe.
In 1991 it was declared Natural Monument and included in the Ministerial Decree for the Region of Sardinia among the 20 secular trees.
It is located in the locality of Karana, near Lake Liscia, not far from the Church of Santu Baltolu.
This site is one of the favorite destinations for tourists who over the decades have made the majesty of the wild olive known throughout the world.
S’Ozzastru, is the typical name given by the inhabitants of Luras themselves. The wild olive tree was born from seed, today it measures 14 meters in height, 18 meters and 60 centimeters of circumference of the trunk at the base, 11 meters and 16 centimeters of circumference of the trunk at breast height and the foliage covers 600 square meters of surface.
From the gnarled heart of the trunk spring several long emerged roots, which secure the green giant firmly to the ground. The irregular foliage laps the ground on one side and rises on the other, as if looking at the wonderful panorama of Lake Liscia.
A second olive tree, over 2000 years old, measures 8 meters high, 1315 centimeters at the collar, 820 centimeters of the trunk at breast height. Closing the group of centenarians is another plant over 5 centuries old.

Millenary Olives
Once arrived at the ticket office, our tourist guides will accompany you to discover the history of the Millenary Olives of Luras, telling you about their past, anecdotes and curiosities. On the way back you can taste one of our home-made platters made with local products, or you can stop in the picnic area and in the dedicated refreshment point to have your meal and use the bar service.
From April 1 until November 2, at 10:30 visit to the Millenary Olive tree costs 5 €, visit to the Millenary Olive tree + platter 19 €.
Millenary Olive tree + Navigation on Lake Liscia on the Pollux Boat
Once arrived at the ticket office, our tourist guides will accompany you to discover the history of the Millenary Olives of Luras, telling you about their past, anecdotes and curiosities. When you come back from the visit you can stop in the picnic area and in the dedicated refreshment point to eat your meal and use the bar service. You can also navigate the waters of Lake Liscia on board the Pollux Boat, you will discover panoramic views never seen before and you will be enchanted.
From april 1st to november 2nd, friday and saturday, meeting at 10:30 at the Olivastri Millenari.
Reservation is required, adults 22 €, children 3-10 years old 11 €.

Not only that, but you can also travel back in time comfortably seated in the carriage of the Trenino Verde retracing the old railway route Palau-Tempio.

Unthinkable, unimaginable that those oleasters have lived for millennia and will still be there for more millennia and finally that man has taken to heart their existence.
Nice place. We wanted to spend a couple of hours in nature with our daughter. We saw the olive trees, there is a nice view of the Liscia Dam. There are also tables to sit and eat if one brought lunch, or just admire the scenery. Unfortunately for us, it started to rain. I greatly recommend this trip.
Isolated and quiet place to disconnect for a moment from the crowds of beaches and villages. Entrance fee. The place may not be impressive, but it is difficult to remain indifferent to the majesty of these ancient trees. The area includes a picnic area with bathrooms and a terrace overlooking the lake.
If you love nature, you can’t miss the power of this place.
Timetable and Booking
The Millennial Olivastro site is open from 1 april to 2 november from 10:30 onwards. Guided tours take place every day.
